Now TV Changes 2021

There are Now TV changes coming in 2021. I’ve talked many times about Now TV on this blog. I think it’s generally been a great offering for you to be entertained with great TV shows and movies, without a contract. The offerings like Game Of Thrones, Joker, Mare Of Easttown and back to back episodes of Paw Patrol for the children are great. However there are big things shaking up over at Now TV. Let’s have a look at those Now TV changes coming in 2021.

Now TV Changes

Now TV is Now NOW

Now TV has dropped the TV part of it’s name. When they started offering broadband and that kind of thing, I did wonder how long it would be called Now TV. The umbrella of NOW allows it to focus one area on TV, another arm on Broadband and maybe even bring in other aspects of business.

No More Kids Pass

The Kids pass which you used to be able to purchase for £3.99 a month, has now gone. All the Kids content is still available, but it has been shifted into the Entertainment pass instead. This is great if you were buying both. A good addition if you had kids and were buying the Entertainment pass. Not so great if you just spent that £4 a month so your kids had access to a range of on demand cartoons. This is an example of these Now TV changes being both a gift for some and a curse for others. This change to the Kids channels came into affect on June 8th 2021.

Changes To Cinema Pass Price

The price for Sky Cinema membership has been £11.99 for some time. It will be dropping down to £9.99 from 15th July 2021. This means you’ll pay £2 a month less but still have access to some great movies. Currently at the time of writing this you can watch Bad Boys For Life, Paddington 2 and The New Mutants. The price changes will take place from your next bill after July 15th or, if you’re on an offer, when that offer ends.

NOW Boost

Boost came into play a while back and it was £3 a month to get better picture and sound quality. It meant you got Full HD rather than 720p and smoother action on 6 Sky Sports channels with 50 frames per second. Boost also offered a fully immersive audio experience with Dolby Digital 5.1. On top of that, you got access to a third streaming device. So instead of the usual 2 devices that could stream at the same time, a third person could watch something different.

These things are changing come July 15th 2021. You will need Boost to have more than one steaming device as the standard amount is dropped to just one. If you have boost (which will rise in price to £5 a month) you’ll have access to three. If you don’t have Boost, what you watch will soon have adverts included. Which to me, I think is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Why The Changes?

You might be wondering why are the Now TV changes coming into place? Firstly, the company say they have listened to customers and have made changes to make it better for us. However, there will no doubt be a bigger profit for them with these changes in place. There are also changes coming to the platform in terms of content. For example, The Walking Dead is moving from Fox, which is available on NOW, to Star on Disney+ from July.

With the rise of Disney’s own streaming platform, there will no doubt be times where agreements on certain series and films come to an end. If Disney have their own platform now, they don’t need to utilise another platform for their content. They will make more money and gain more customers by having their own content on their own service.

What do you think about the Now TV changes? Do you have a rolling contract with the platform or maybe just dip in now and again and pay for a month’s access to watch a new series or some blockbuster films? Be aware of the changes in terms of money but also those content changes which are coming soon.
