Staycation Inflation & How To Avoid It In 2021

Have you heard of staycation inflation? With the increase in demand for staycation holidays, the price of holiday homes has skyrocketed. I spotted a holiday home in Cornwall being advertised for £70,000+ for a week! That’s the price of a semi detached house in some parts of the country! We all want a good holiday right now but many of us are worried about money. Let’s have a look at how to beat this staycation inflation and still have a super holiday this summer.

Budget Hotels

You don’t need to spend lots of money on a cottage by the sea to enjoy your summer. You could find a bargain price at a budget hotel like Premier Inn or Travelodge and simply use it as a base. It has everything you need in terms of somewhere to wash and sleep. Some rooms you can find for £30 a night! So that’s five days of accommodation for £150! Much better than some of these places charging hundreds of pounds a night! You could even plan a mini road trip, spending each night at a different one! Beat the staycation inflation with budget hotels!

Dust Off The Tent

There are plenty of camp sites here in the UK and you just need to dust of that old tent and give it a good airing out. Camp sites are booking up fast but you could get a pitch for £25-£30 a night. There’s something fun about a family camping under canvas together. Prices have gone up slightly but not as much as cottages. The perfect place to make great memories.

Holiday At A Friend’s House

Have you missed seeing friends over the past year or so? Or family members who live some distance away? How about holidaying at their house this summer? You could pile into their spare room or pitch your tent in their garden! Take some food, enjoy a BBQ together, spend time with loved ones. Even if those friends are away, you could perhaps borrow their house for a few nights. Maybe even a house swap! The perfect way to avoid that staycation inflation!

Look For A Last Minute Bargain

You never know, if you hold off long enough you might spot a last minute bargain on a cottage by the sea. People might not be able to make their reservation so might be looking for someone else to take their booking. Join some Facebook groups to keep an eye out for events like that. You could also see if you can spot a couple of nights that cottages have spare here and there and then contact the owner direct. If you keep yourself flexible, you might be able to pack a bag and head off for a couple of days relaxing without charging too much to the credit card!

Stay At Home

You could just save your money, avoid staycation inflation altogether and stay at home. Whilst we’ve been at home a lot, there’s nothing stopping you from going off some day trips to the coast or countryside. You’re guaranteed a comfortable bed and a hot shower! Make use of what you have. Enjoy the garden, get some beers in, order a decent takeaway as a treat! You could even hire a hot tub for the week! Your summer is what you make it!
