With the introduction of the new £20 note this month, I was challenged by Morses Club, who offer cash loans (Representative 466.37% APR) to organise a family day out for £20. Having as much fun and joyousness as possible, whilst sticking within the budget. Here is my twenty quid day and some awesome facts about the new £20 note, which you’ll soon see in circulation.
Kids Club Cinema
Start the day with a family trip to the cinema. Did you know that you can visit the cinema for £2.50 each? Odeon and Vue cinemas both do a variation of a kid’s club on weekends and during school holidays. They usually put an animation film on, which is a couple of months old and making its way out of cinemas with tickets for just £2.50 each. That includes parents too! So four of us can go for £10! Take the risk of just turning up without booking tickets online as they put a 75p booking fee on each ticket, pushing your price to £13!
It might be busier on rainy days. Double check online that seats are available before you leave home and get there early. As the films start at 10am you don’t need to buy popcorn or sweets either. We’ve seen The Lego Batman Movie and Cars 3 as part of these promotions in the past. Recent films this month have included The Addams Family and Abominable.
Dominos For Lunch
Coming out of the cinema, we’ve spent half our budget and it’s almost lunch time. I discovered this awesome offer at Dominos a while ago and wrote about it as part of my cheap meal deals post. If you visit a Dominos store to place and collect your order, you can get a personal pizza for £1.99. These usually retail for £5.99 excluding delivery and they certainly aren’t worth that much! £1.99 is perfect as everyone gets their own individual pizza and can choose what they want.
The kids usually have a Margarita, my wife has a vegetarian option and I go for a Meateor. If none of the menu options tickle your fancy you can choose 2 toppings for the same price. They are great value, fill you up at lunchtime and there are also no fights as everyone gets their own. 4 pizzas, £7.96 and at one of the Dominos stores near us they even have tables and iPads with games for the kids to play on. Everyone wins!
Park & Sweet Shop
With £2.04 left in our pocket, we’ll head to the park in the afternoon to work off that pizza. Local parks are free and ours is pretty ace. The kids can blow off some steam after being sat nicely in the cinema and at lunch whilst my wife and I look after the baby, chat and push the older ones on the swings if they ask. Nothing spent in the park, so we take our last couple of pounds and detour to the sweet shop on our way home. The older kids get 50p each to spend on pick and mix. One of them goes for gummy sweets, the other one a chocolate variety mix from one of the traditional glass jars behind the counter. They’re both happy. My wife and I use the final pound for a random £1 mix of gummy sweets we can enjoy together.
Games & Giggles
With 4p left over and a bag of sweets in our hands we head home to play games and have fun together. The 4p goes into the family piggy bank where we put our change. Eventually we empty it for a takeaway or to go to the arcades when we visit the coast. For £20, we’ve had a fun day out and made memories. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy yourselves.
Fantastic £20 Facts

No £20 For A Day Out?
Maybe you don’t have £20 for a day out. That might be beyond your capacity at the moment with all your other financial obligations. Be money aware and stay within your budget. Even if you do find yourself turning to Cash Loans (Representative 466.37% APR) to help, always do your research first and make sure it’s the most suitable option for you.
Change Is Good
Not just the 4p we put in the piggy bank at the end of the day, change is good! Stepping out, doing something different and enjoying experiences over things is fantastic. Many people will say you can’t get a lot for £20 these days. Hopefully my £20 day out challenge shows that you can!
