If you’re anything like me, you’ve had countless calls from a company working with/for your energy company trying to book an appointment to install your smart meter.
One of the key things to remember is, however many calls you get, however much they are trying to get you to have a smart meter, you don’t have to have one.
There are many things wrong with smart meters at the moment. These include them not working if you change supplier, or even health warnings about them. People have reported migraines, which, when my wife has them anyway, we don’t want anything extra added on top.

Whilst some of these may or may not be true, again, you don’t have to have a smart meter.
I think the idea is good, in theory, but like many things in this country, the idea seems ok, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
They detail how much energy you are using at any given time and track your usage so you can see where you can cut back. They don’t save you money by themselves. They simply replace your existing meter. You’d then have to see where you’re spending and cut back or change your habits in order to save energy and money. I’m pretty sure I can do that myself.
Personally, there is enough monitoring in this life without adding more in. I can take my own meter readings and submit them monthly, I don’t need more wireless activity in my home and harassing to get something installed which isn’t required, especially when they seem to be causing more problems than they are solving. Once more and for the final time, you do not have to have a smart meter if you do not want one.
