Moving House During The Lockdown

This is a paid collaboration.

During the pandemic, we’ve all had to rally together and try our best to muster through. One of the great things, one of the schemes implemented was a stamp duty holiday. This meant that the first £500,000 of all property sales in England and Northern Ireland would be suspended. This has helped boost house prices. With no stamp duty to pay, people have been taking advantage and moving house. As this stamp duty holiday comes to an end even though there are talks of extending said holiday due to the new lockdown, how can you move house quickly, affordably and efficiently?

Get Rid Of Your Clutter

There is no point in moving stuff that you simply don’t want anymore, from one home to another. Now is the time to declutter. Get rid of the things you no long use, like, or serve a purpose in your life. Why do you have loads of DVDs sat on the shelf that you never watch, whilst you’re paying for a streaming service? Do you enjoy dusting all those trinkets on the mantelpiece? How about that wardrobe full of clothes you haven’t worn in two years? When you get rid of your clutter, you’ll need less boxes to move your belongings. If you manage to sell some belongings before you move, you’ll make some spare cash to put towards your moving bills too.

Hire Some Help

It’s great to get some help when you’re moving house. You might consider doing it yourself but it’s much easier if you get the professionals in. An efficient removal service is worth their weight in gold. They do this for a living and will work hard and quickly to get you and your things moved. Even during the lockdown and pandemic, removal companies are working to new restrictions, wearing masks and keeping safe. Having your belongings in boxes with what room they need to go into in the new house is ideal. This means everything can go where it needs to be, giving you some time to clean, tidy and get on with the next chapter in your family adventure. Help is ideal, especially when you have children. Don’t forget to pack an essentials bag that you carry with you. This can include any medicine you need, maybe a change of clothes for the kids and some snacks. You might need more than a bag if there are more than a couple of you, or you have a lot of stuff to pack and unpack. Making sure you have labelled your boxes correctly and know where the kids pyjamas are is probably a good first step though.

Life has been put on hold for lots of us for almost a year now. We’ve been stuck indoors, working from home, watching more TV than ever before. We’ve also added homeschooling to the list of things to juggle. Don’t put off your house move because of the lockdown. Life needs to move forward. New bedrooms, new outdoor space, new decorating to get on with and a new house to turn into a home. This is an exciting time you need to grab with both hands. Having a little bit of help will certainly help you during this time.

There have been talks about pausing all home moves during lockdown. Keep an eye on the Government website for updates.
