They say that moving house is one of the most stressful parts of your life. It’s understandable. It sometimes feels like the planets have to align in order for things to run smoothly. There are so many things I would do differently if we were to move house again and in this post, we’re going to look at a few of those. Let’s explore how to make moving house easier.

Declutter Before You Move
We knew that we were moving into a larger house. It was partly the reason we were moving. Not only to get out of the expensive area we were living in as we no longer needed to be there for work, having gone self-employed, but we wanted to be closer to the family as well. Knowing we had a larger house to move into, twice the size in terms of bedrooms, we didn’t really get rid of anything. So we shifted all our stuff in a huge moving van. Some of that stuff we haven’t used and have since got rid of. Some of it still sits in the loft in boxes. We could have saved money, time, and effort by decluttering before we moved.
Get A Binder
It is so important to keep everything together. There is so much paperwork involved in moving house. This also includes emails. Be sure that you have a binder that is clearly labeled and organised so you can get the form or piece of paper you need when you need it. You should also create a folder for your emails! There is nothing worse than not having the form you need which could then delay things and even jeopardise the move. Make copies of anything you have to post out and ensure that you keep documents that you are sent to hand as well. This could include your homebuyer protection insurance paperwork.

Stay On Top of Things
Along with your folder, you need to know when things are due to happen. What date will the survey take place? What day of the week are you planning on swapping keys? When are your services switching or starting in the new property? Be sure to stay on top of things and update your plan accordingly. This will make it much easier to stay in the know, as there is a lot of information to remember.
Pack An Essentials Box
Always pack an essentials box for when you get to your new place. There is nothing worse than getting to your new home and wondering where you put the kettle. After a long day of shifting boxes, dropping off keys and maybe even driving a fair distance, having everyting you need for that first night in one box is so wise. That should include teabags, toilet paper, snacks, cleaning supplies, pet food and even a takeaway menu. You also need to include anything your kids need such as pyjamas, nappies and wipes.
Take away some of the stress of moving house by being planned and knowing exactly where everything is.
