Investing money can be tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing. Some investments won’t ever give you any money back. Lots of people swear by investing. However, interest rates are at an extremely low at the moment, I started looking for ways to make money on my money in a different ways. This is when I decided to buy limited edition items which should hopefully make some money in the future.
How Did This Come About?
I decided to start doing this after we were a little short on cash and I decided to sell a limited edition Blu-Ray I’d never opened. It was a Studio Ghibli film that I bought two or three years ago for about £20. I put it on the shelf and as I have the film on DVD, I never opened it. After looking, it was no longer available to buy, so all the copies had been taken. With that, I looked on eBay and found that the copies were selling for at least £40. That’s doubling my money in 2 years. What other investment does that? I know it’s not a groundbreaking amount of money, but as they say, every little helps. I put it on eBay and it sold for £49.50. However, this was just the start.
What Next?
This got me thinking, maybe there is some money in this idea. So after I got an extra bit of work one month, I used £60 to buy four more. They seem to release these limited editions one or two every six months and there were four available. They’re now sat on my shelf and should hopefully sell out on the websites they’re available. In a couple of years time, I’m going to do a quick search and see what my £60 investment could now be worth. The fact is that they’re not going to go down in value and I could sell them for what I paid for them easily. As they become more rare, they’ll go up in price. If I can double my money, I’ll be happy. However it’s not the only idea I have.
Other Ideas
There are so many possibilities of what you could buy, hold onto and then sell off at a later date. You could make a lot more than you’d make by putting it in a bank! When I was in a CEX shop I spotted the price that Nintendo 64 games are now selling for. I have loads of them in storage somewhere and I need to dig them out. Vinyls sell really well and cassettes are now making money again as they’re no longer being made. I started to buy limited edition items and wonder what other ideas are out there. What could you do? Let me know any ideas you have over on Twitter.
