I got this top money tip from Emma Drew, which she posted on her Instagram. I had to share it, it’s brilliant. Why have I never thought of it?
If you’re anything like me you have loads of 1ps and 2ps. Now they’re great if you’re heading to the coast and plan on pushing them into the arcade machines, but if they’re just sat in your drawer like mine, you’ve got a drawer full of cash which is doing nothing.
Banks will take a certain amount (usually 5 bags at a time) but they have to be £1 worth of copper, or £5 worth of silver. Then there are machines like Coinstar which take a percentage, quite a high one at that, usually about 12%, but they sort out and count up your change and give you a print out token to use in the shop.
If you want to avoid giving 12p of every pound away, why not use your change in a self service machine? It might take a while to put your coins into the machine and I’ve read comments about some machines breaking with too many coins being pushed in, but it’s a great way to get rid of your copper coins, whilst using their full value and getting your shopping in return. I’m definitely using this top tip in the future.
