Christmas Toys

Christmas is on the way and if your kids are anything like mine, their lists to send to Santa are getting longer and longer. They want a variety of things including lots of Christmas Toys.

Whilst looking at the list of the top ten most wanted toys for Christmas, the only one that I actually knew what it was was a Buzz Lightyear. Disney Pixar got it right. I remember this being one of the most sort after presents at Christmas when I was growing up. Bringing out a fourth film has no doubt upped their share price!

Whilst there will be individual things that children want, there are too many Christmas toys for boys and Christmas toys for girls to choose from. These more than often overlap as kids love playing with all sorts of things.

You can’t go wrong with Lego. Building blocks are a staple of every toy list and if you aren’t sure what to buy, these are ideal. Even better if you can find them on offer. If it’s not a specific set, look at the price per brick. I recently picked up a box of 900 bricks for £18. The 600 brick box was £15, so this price was pretty good. I think that those specific lego sets where you build a car or a plane are fantastic, but sometimes you just want to build whatever you create in your head. This is when a bunch of bricks is just useful.

Educational and developmental toys are really good these day as well. I’ve always said that if you can get kids into coding, they’ll be sorted for a job in the future. My eldest does coding at school and he’s only six years old. There are coding toys which are really fun and user friendly, whilst giving kids key skills for life.

I think playrooms full of toys might be what children think they want but so often they want to spend time with family, with their parents. The world is littered with distractions, we carry one around with us in our pockets every day. Our phones are a huge part of modern life and that can get in the way of family time. One of the gifts we’re putting together this year isn’t a toy. It’s a jar full of twelve different activities that we can do together. Every month we’ll get the kids to pick one slip of paper out the jar and we’ll do it that month. It could be a cinema trip, going to the bowling alley, a day at the beach. Exciting things that make memories, not mess.

I’ve written some Financial Tips for Christmas on a separate blog which are well worth reading. Remember, you don’t have to spend loads of money to have a good time. Christmas Toys are trends, tads, they come and go. Lifelong memories are cherished forever.
