As we embark on the early weeks of a new year and try to put a fairly horrid 12 months behind us, you might be thinking about some changes that you’d like to make around the home. Perhaps it’s time to redecorate the living room, extend the kitchen or convert the garage?
Alternatively, you might decide to renovate your outside space. Data from 2020 shows that sales of gardening and DIY equipment soared during lockdown, as people all over the UK attempted to use their time productively and get stuck into jobs around the house.
With the country still a long way from having the coronavirus under control, it may be that we’re set to spend a lot more time at home this year. As the weather gradually improves, the garden is likely to prove a popular escape for many. If yours is looking a little tired, here are a few things you can do to transform your space.
Decking
You might decide to do away with one corner of your lawn and opt for a stylish decking installation. It can provide the perfect spot to sit out on a warm summer’s evening with a cold drink, reflecting on the day’s events and generally unwinding after work. You’ll need a firm base and a solid frame before fixing the decking panels, and you might want to consider painting the timber to complement the garden furniture you’ve selected.
Decorations
Why not add a splash of colour with some garden decoration ideas? They could range from bright and bold furniture, a funky firepit or some fairy lights strung amid the foliage for that magical touch. They’re sure to make a conversation point when it comes to socialising with your friends and family and they’ll add a sense of individualism that will make your garden feel more like an extension of your home.
Patio
If decking and decorations aren’t your thing, perhaps you’d prefer a patio instead. These are a great option, especially if you have a door that leads directly out onto the garden from the house. You’ll need to clear a space and you may need a ground leveller and cement mixer to help with the construction. You may also require a diesel generator to help you power such heavy-duty equipment but the neighbours will forgive you the noise when you invite them over for an al fresco meal!
Rockery
A great way to add a natural feature to your garden is to include a rockery. By unearthing large stones and arranging them in a certain way surrounded by beds of soil, you can create the perfect space to plant a number of rockery flowers that will bloom at just the right time.
