As drivers, we love our cars and want to take care of them. We might potter around the local community in ours or drive them miles across the motorways. Whatever we do with them, there are some easy car hacks we can do to keep them looking tip top and make those long journeys that little bit better.
Check Your Tyres
Did you know you can get an on the spot fine if your tyre tread is below the minimum requirement? An easy way to check with with a 20 pence piece. Simply put the coin into the tyre’s main treat grooves. You’re wanting the outer band of the 20 pence piece to be obscured when it’s inside the groove. If it’s not, you need to look at getting your tyres changed.
Unfreeze Locks
Did you know that you likely (especially at the moment!) have something in your pocket or at least nearby, that will help with frozen locks. Th alcohol in hand sanitizer will cut though ice pretty quickly. Simply squirt a load of it onto the frozen part of the lock and wait. You’ll be on your way in no time!

Long Socks To The Rescue
Sticking with the theme of winter, long socks can be your friends, right/ They can keep your feet and legs warm and toasty in the cold weather. But you can also use an old pair to ensure your wiper blades don’t get frozen up. They can so often get damaged this way, especially when they’re stuck to the windscreen and you start them working You can easily break the motor! If you’re due a big frost, insert each wiper into a long sock and it should help protect it.
Toothpaste Hero
Foggy headlights are a real pain and can limit the amount of light your lights actually throw out. Get some toothpaste and smear it on the lights. Leave it for a while and then rub off. Keep rubbing and the fog should start to lift away. An easy car hack which also helps with safety!
Which Side To Fill Up?
Have you ever borrowed a car or been in a hire car and need to fill it up with fuel? Maybe you can never remember which side your own car’s fuel cap is on? Look at the fuel gauge on your dashboard. Pay close attention and you should see a little arrow. That is pointing to the side of the car yo need to go to to fill up. No more wondering! You’re welcome!
Pool Noodles Are Your Friends
Ir your garage or parking spot that little bit tight. When you open the door and try and squeeze in and out does the door hit the wall? Get a pool noodle or a pipe insulation cover, cut a section off and stick it to the wall were your door usually hits. This way, you won’t damage your car door again!
It’s Rubbish
Long car journeys often mean snacks and snacks usually mean packaging. Where do those crisp packets, sweet wrappers and fast food bags containers end up? Usually in the foot well. Instead of that, make you own car bin. Get a cheap plastic cereal container. Insert a plastic bag, put the lid back on and you’ve got your own car bin! All you need to do it remember to empty it when it gets full!

How to Save Money on Your Teenager’s Car Insurance
Extra Cup Holder?
Do you need an extra cup holder? Cup holders for cars are often useless. They’re sometimes too small for the size of the beverage or simply badly designed and in the wrong place. If you’re anything like me, when you go to a drive through to bring home, you don’t have enough spaces to put those drinks cups. This is where the cup holders for cars hack comes into play. Throw an extra couple of pairs of shoes into the car and you can simply use each shoe as a cup holder. Genius! You’ll never be short of cup holders for cars again!
Get Rid Of Smells
Does your car always smell a bit musty or funky? Get a box of dryer sheets and pop one underneath each seat. This way the fragrance of the sheets will move through the car seat and help freshen the air. You can also do this with old pieces of smelly candles. Simply put them in an old washed out jam or sauce jar, put the lid back on and pierce some hole in it. When the car warms up, the wax will melt and lovely smells will fill your car. Better than an air freshener swaying in the driver’s view!
