The right side of the brain is responsible for all things creative, intuition related and emotional intelligence. It’s the part of the brain that we need to create innovative ideas and problem solve. However, it doesn’t just come to be an idea churning machine. It’s grown and strengthened overtime through regular exercise. Childhood is the best time to work on the skill. Below are some activities that you can work on with your child to boost their creativity.
This is a post that has been put together with an independent school in Kingston Upon Thames.
Watch and Wait
It’s important to give children free creative reign, where they don’t feel confined and can be as wacky and imaginative as they like. This is known as unstructured play and can be achieved through open ended play resources. Toys like Lego and craft kits are good examples as they are materials that can be shaped and transformed into whatever they like.
Offer Inspiration
If they’re short of ideas, you can also look at ways to offer inspiration. You might take them outdoors, sightseeing or explore existing artwork that they can take from and use for the basis of theirs.

Get Them a Journal
Creativity can strike at any moment and having a notebook handy ensures that they have somewhere to expand and create more intricate plans.
These are a few of the ways that you can help your child to build upon their creativity. We’re all creative in our own sense and it is something that you should bear in mind. There are different forms and while some of us are creative in the artistic sense, others are creative with their ideas and are great at coming up with solutions. It’s about working with them to explore those sides and bringing them out.
