Your Travel

The cost of running a car has broken records over the last few months. So if you are in the South of England, Yorkshire might not be ideal for you. However, you can use these tips and ideas within your own area of the country. If you live near the county, using a bit of petrol to enjoy a Yorkshire staycation is a great idea. Rail strikes might put you off taking the train, however, there are lots of opportunities within the area to enjoy a steam train ride, which won’t be affected by any strike action. Your car will likely be your main source of travel but you could also use pedal power. Yorkshire got cycling fever when it hosted the opening of the Tour De France and the subsequent Tour De Yorkshires. Take your bikes with you if you have a cycle rack on your car, or hire them when you get there. It’s a great way to get around and see the countryside.

Accommodation

A lot of cottages and holiday rentals will be booked out for the summer by now. That’s probably not a bad thing for you though, because they come with a whopping price tag. You’d be much better looking for a campsite and sleeping under canvas for a few nights. Alternatively, you could see if friends or family have a caravan or campervan that they would lend you. Some people even buy a caravan just for the summer and then sell it on so they don’t have to deal with storage over the winter months. Campsites can be fantastic, with brilliant facilities and a home-from-home feel. If there are four of you in the family you can expect to pay anywhere from £25 a night for your pitch.
