How To Save Money As Fuel Prices Continue Rising

How much does it cost you to fill up your car with petrol right now? Maybe you have a van that takes diesel instead? Whatever fuel you use, the prices on the forecourt are breaking records over and over again. Whilst people are leaving their cars on their driveways and walking more, if you have 40 miles to travel you need to use your car. How can we start saving money as these fuel prices become out of reach for most of us? What are some options for the average driver ut there on the roads? Let’s take a look.

What Are You Currently Paying For?

It cost me almost £60 to fill up the other day. I have about a third of a tank of fuel already, so that is looking at almost £90 for a tank. Remember the outrage about payat-pump machines checking your bank account for £100 before letting you fill up? Seems daft now doesn’t it? Fuel prices are skyrocketing but what are you actually paying for? How much are you getting for your tank of fuel? How far can you travel? It’s well worth checking your MPG so you can compare it to other vehicles? The further you can go on your tank means you are getting more from the fuel you are buying. It can be down to driving style, where you are travelling (cities/motorways) and also the vehicle you actually have.

Is Your Vehicle Right For You?

One way to save some money is to perhaps swap cars. If you are a solo person, with only you in the car, do you need a huge engine and loads of extra seats? Is your 4×4 necessary for the errands you do in your own town? You can get a good price for a second-hand vehicle at the moment and newer cars usually have a better fuel economy. Maybe it’s time to use a figure out to see if you can afford a different vehicle? Swapping to something with a smaller engine or a more suitable car for your situation could save you some cash. Getting rid of that car that keeps breaking down is probably a wise move too.

Other Ways To Save Money When You Drive

Look for the best places to fill up your tank. There are apps that you can download that track all the fuel stations, so use that knowledge. Taking anything out of your car that you don’t need will also save you money. Otherwise, you’re using more fuel to drive around a heavier vehicle. Plan your routes better to travel more economically and check traffic so you aren’t moving along a road in first gear. By being aware of what is going on around you, you can drive better and use that fuel in your tank well.

Whilst we are facing increased and rising prices at the petrol pumps, we can do our bit to save money. Consider what you are driving around and if it’s time to switch to something different. Is car sharing something you can do for your commute? Take those golf clubs out the boot too!
