Loft Storage Ideas

Do you have more stuff in your house than you want? Do you have storage hampers and shelves rammed to the nines with books? Wouldn’t you like to sort your loft a little better so you can properly and effectively store the stuff you currently don’t want in your home? Read on for some loft storage ideas which will help!

Ladders Up

First, you need to be able to access your loft. If you have a hatch, perfect. You just need a ladder to get up there. Drop down ladders are perfect, light and affordable if you opt for the aluminium ones. If you’re only going up and down to the loft occasionally, it’s best to keep the cost down and go for practicality over style. Once this is in place, you’re set.

Insulation and Boards

Hopefully your loft is already insulated and boarded out giving you somewhere to put your things. If it’s not, you could look online and figure out how to do this yourself or get a company in to do this for you. Make sure your have adequate insulation to help keep heat loss to a minimum from the home and also board a big enough area so you can use the loft space for proper storage.

Light It Up

When putting your insulation and boarding into place you probably use plug in work lights. To use your loft easily and quickly you’ll be best to install some proper loft lighting. With a flick of a switch you can be searching for that box with the things and the pieces you really need!

Sort Any Issues

We have a slight condensation issues during the winter in the loft and after a bit of reading I found some good information and reviews about these loft vents. They slot between your loft felt which sits behind the tiles and opens the felt up to allow for better air flow. I’m hopefully this will sort the condensation.

Stackable Boxes

Your new best friend is the stackable box store or the online retailer you can order from! Be aware if ordering online, so often things can damaged in transit and crack easily. Out of eight I recently bought to organise our loft, two were damaged. I requested replacements but that’s not the point. If you’re wanting to get your loft storage ideas into action quickly, go to Homebase yourself. Stackable is important so you can use height as to double or triple your square footage of the storage area. It’s your decision whether you want your things on show or not. Transparent boxes allow you to see whats inside, but you could also label boxes so things looks less chaotic. Boxes with decent lids will help keep your belongings air tight. This will keep them safe from dirt, water and other nasties you might find in the loft.

Christmas and Your Other Crap

What I’d suggest doing once you’ve organised your belongings into boxes is to store them in an order. Keep Christmas decorations together. Put your baby clothing in one section. Stack similar boxes on top of one another. This will help you to get to know and remember the space you are designing. You’ll be able to head straight to what you need when you need it.

Mind your head on those rafters, invest in sturdy boxes which will last and make sure you aren’t storing stuff for the sake of it. Important memories yes. Stuff you forgot you had, don’t use and isn’t important, well, depending on what it is, charity shop or trash,
