We’ve all felt down and out this year. We’re probably looking forward to New Year’s Eve and finding out what 2021 has in store for us. More positive news and good vibes hopefully! With that said, the Rhianna songs says that we found love in a hopeless place. The hopeless place of a pandemic doesn’t mean you’re off grid and can’t connect with new people. The dating game might have changed slightly but you can still potentially meet the one!
The Online World
When the pandemic hit we ended up having to heavily rely on the internet. Not just for browsing social networks, gaming and sending emails. We needed to run businesses over Wi-Fi, there was an upturn in online supermarket shopping and the only way we could chat face to face was through the likes of FaceTime. If you were in the middle of figuring out your love life, this was put on hold as well. However, taking it onto the internet was a possibility. Meeting local people where there was potential for a future romance became easy from the comfort of your own sofa. We couldn’t go to the pubs because we weren’t allowed. As cities were shut down, the likes of Nottinghamshire dating sites let people find, connect with and chat to people in the local area who were in similar situations. I wonder just how many marriages will come out of online dating during lockdown.

Loneliness & Isolation
With the pandemic, an epidemic of loneliness and depression swept across our nation. We couldn’t see loved ones. The lives we lead changed overnight. The plans we made the night before for the next day were put on hold. Single people living alone were thrust into an isolated state, only seeing people from a distance and over web cams. The connections we make online so often provide us with more support than our loved ones in the real world. So how about meeting people online who are local to us. If we feel the urge, we can ask to meet them in the real world and see where the friendship goes. It might even develop into a relationship. What a story that would be! Imagine meeting someone over the internet during one of your darkest days in 2020 and maybe asking them to marry you in 2021. Whilst weddings don’t look like the same and might not do for a while, does it really matter about the wedding day? It’s the marriage after that which is important and if we’ve learned anything from this year, it’s to grab life by the balls. Life is short and we need to live it. If that’s finding someone online who you connect with, putting yourself out there into the potentially awkward position of meeting for real and then taking things further, go for it.
Don’t sit in the dark any longer. It’s time to switch on, log in and find someone who might just be looking for you too! Happy dating!
