If the pandemic had any benefits, it was the amount of start up businesses launching and becoming successful. Exploding in niche markets or taking on well known areas with a difference, there have been many success stories over the last 18 months as people put their time to good use rather than binge watching another box set. Many of those companies have brought their business to market in a sustainable way. With so much emphasis and focus on climate change and the impact we are having on the world, start ups are changing the way that business operate. Let’s look at how businesses can keep an eye on sustainability whilst still producing profits.

Promote Paperless
Many of our banks and building societies give us options to go paperless and it is a great way to cut back across businesses. By promoting a paperless office space you are removing that reliance on paper. Not only so you not have to buy it, that is less trees being cut down! By using cloud based solutions for projects, you can keep everything digital. This helps when more and more people are also working from home. For paper that you must used, in payroll for example, be sure it is from sustainable sources and the ink used is eco.
Sustainable Packaging
If you are sending out products to customers, packaging can be a huge area where you not only spend money, but where it can also end up in landfill. We’ve all seen the horror stories on Twitter where people have been sent a paperclip in 5 cardboard boxes, for example. Packaging doesn’t have to be over the top and border line ridiculous. Nor does it have to impact the environment as much as it once did. Sustainable packaging is possible. If you look at Tyler Packaging, you’ll see there is all sorts of sustainable packaging available. Recyclable packaging, paper packaging and compostable packaging are just a few options. They are perfect for a number of markets where start ups have appeared, including beverage, pet food and health.
Conserve Energy
We can all do our bit to conserve energy and that personal responsibility extends from our homes to our places of work. You can save energy and hence a massive amount of money on the electric bill by switching off equipment at the end of the day. Many staff simply put their computers to sleep, but switching it off saves more energy. Turn lights off in rooms not being used and turn the heating down in board rooms when they are not needed. If everyone does a little bit, it’s adds up to a lot.

Office Plants Are You Friends
Many people think office pants are just for decoration but they provide so much more to us. They boost oxygen levels which aid your staff, whilst also removing carbon dioxide. Stats say that indoor plants can remove 87% of indoor air pollutants within just 24 hours. Whilst reduce stress, office plants might just be your new best friends!
There are lots of ways that companies can take a step forward and improve their sustainable ways at work. Start ups over the last couple of years have shown us that it is indeed possible to promote these and turn a profit. Can you be the driving force to make changes in your office? Maybe sustainable transportation and green thinking are on the agenda, you could be the one to take the lead.
