Thrifty Thursday – Top Money Saving Tips 28/04/2022

You may have heard me on BBC Radio Lancashire with Graham Liver this morning for Thrifty Thursday. Here are the top money saving tips and deals I talked about.

Potential Good News For Energy Prices

It was reported earlier this week that wholesale gas prices are at the lowest since October last year. Whilst it’s still much more than before the energy price crisis, it could mean that the future price cap rise (based on Feb-July 2022) in October 2022 might not be as harsh as expected. Something to keep an eye on.

Shopping Price Drops

Asda have dropped prices on over 100 products. These include fruit and vegetables, meat and rice. Asda have committed to locking in those prices for the rest of the year.

Morrisons have committed to lowering 500 essentials across their range. These include eggs, baked beans, coffee and nappies.

These discounts appear to have come into play due to these two supermarkets lagging beyond the likes of Tesco and Sainsburys who have price matched budget stores on a number of products. Whatever the reason, a cut to the cost of our shopping is a big deal for everyone right now.

Cheap Disney+

You may have seen the Tesco Clubcard trick where you can use your £8 worth of your Clubcard points to get 3 months of Disney+. Well until tomorrow (29th April 2022) this is doubled to 6 months! Half a year of access to one of the top streaming services for under ten quid. You can watch the hit series Moon Knight, National Geographic documentaries such as Free Solo and a new episode of The Kardashians every Thursday!

Note – if you have a Netflix account, take a minute to check what package you are paying for. There have been reports that all accounts have been automatically updated to the highest price Premium plan of £15.99. The Basic plan is £6.99 a month and Standard is £10.99, so it’s quite a jump if it’s happened to your account.

2 for 1 Garden Entry

If you love visiting gardens all over the UK, buy the May edition of BBC Gardeners World magazine and you’ll get a 2 for 1 card which you can use over and over again until April 2023.

There are 393 gardens to visit including 40 in the North of England. Be sure to check admission prices of each venue and there are also certain days location won’t accept the 2 for 1 card. A great deal for the Bank Holiday weekend!

I hope these Thrifty Thursday top tips save you some cash.
