Train Price Hikes

Once again, the price we pay to travel by train is increasing.

It’s the highest increase since 2013.

January 2013 – 3.9%

January 2014 – 2.8%

January 2015 – 2.2%

January 2016 – 1.1%

January 2017 – 2.3%

January 2018 – 3.4%

How can you battle back against thes hikes?

Some of the best tips are to book 12 weeks early for cheapest tickets. Don’t always expect to get a better deal if you buy a return ticket, sometimes two singles are cheaper! Megatrain often do £1 fares. Click through cashback sites when booking online to get money back. Split your ticket – it’s often cheaper to book a ticket from X to Y and another from Y to Z, than X to Z. Railcards and season tickets can save you money if you are a frequent traveller.

Don’t sit back and delays. Be sure to claim if your train is delayed. Read more about that on the National Rail website here.
