How far ahead do you plan? Booking time off work for holidays and celebrations? With life busier than ever, having your plans organised well ahead of time is important. With that in mind, let’s take a look at UK Bank Holidays 2027 and how to make the most of your time off.
Bank Holidays 2027 In The UK
The list of UK Bank Holidays 2027 goes like this:
- New Year’s Day – Friday 1st January 2027
- Good Friday – Friday 26th March 2027
- Easter Monday – Monday 29th March 2027
- Early May Bank Holiday – Monday 3rd May 2027
- Spring Bank Holiday – Monday 31st May 2027
- Summer Bank Holiday – Monday 30th August 2027
- Christmas Day – (substitute day) Monday 27th December 2027
- Boxing Day – (substitute day) Tuesday 28th December 2027

Substitute Days
You’ll notice that in the list of Bank Holidays 2027, both Christmas Day and Boxing Day are noted as substitute days. This is because the Bank Holiday does not tally up with the actual date that those days take place. We all know Christmas Day is on 25th of December, however, it falls on a Saturday in 2027. That means the next weekday is the Bank Holiday. Boxing Day falling on Sunday 26th also means the Bank Holiday changes to the next available weekday. This is why we’ll have 27th & 28th December as Bank Holidays in 2027.
Maximise Your Time Off
Making the most of your time off work is important, which is why I’ve come up with some great ways to maximise your UK Bank Holidays 2027. Occasionally we might take the odd day off here and there but if we save some of our vacation days and combine them with Bank Holidays, we can have long periods of time away from the workplace.
If you book four days off before and four days off after the Easter weekend, you’ll enjoy a huge 16 days off work! That’s by only using eight days of your holiday allocation. Over a month off work for just eight holiday days booked! You can use a similar tactic with the UK Bank Holidays 2027 that fall in May and you’ll be enjoying nine days off work by only using four of your holiday days. Simply book the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off after the Bank Holiday! With the weekend and Bank Holiday you can relax and unwind in style. This works with the Summer Bank Holiday too!
You can also use similar technique for time off during the festive holidays. If you love spending time with the family during the Christmas season, then this one is for you! Turn three days of holiday into ten days off! Simply take the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off after the substitute days Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You’ll then be off work from finishing on Christmas Eve, returning to work on Tuesday 4th January 2028! New Year’s Day is on a Saturday, so the substitute Bank Holiday will be on Monday 3rd January 2028. You might even get a couple of extra days off if your business finishes for Christmas earlier than Christmas Eve!

Look Forward To Time Off
Working hard isn’t any good if you aren’t playing hard too. Be sure to utilise your holiday allocation from work to the best of your ability. That way, you can give yourself plenty of holidays to look forward to. Make the most of your UK Bank Holidays 2027.
