Is The Pret Subscription Worth It?

Lockdown has meant that the high street is in trouble. Many shops have already closed, franchises are shutting locations and there have been a whole host of job losses. Companies are trying to lure people back, to spend money. One of the ways that Pret is trying to do this is with their new Pret subscription. If you’re a regular user of the coffee shop this could be an amazing offer for you but even if you’ve never tried their brews, it’s an offer you should probably try!

What Is The Pret Subscription?

Pret are offering you up to five drinks a day for £20 month. This is perfect if you live near, work by or commute past one of their locations. Consider how much you might already spend on takeaway coffee. If we say that the average cost of a takeout drink is £2.50, you don’t need to have eight drinks a month to break even. With a maximum of five per day, you could drink that many in just two days! With this in mind, there are great savings to be had with the Pret subscription.

The First Month Is Free!

They say that you don’t get much for free these days, but as customers we are used to a free trial with our subscriptions. Consider Netflix or Now TV, they offer free trials and the Pret subscription is giving us the same. A whole month for free! Just like those TV companies, Pret will be relying on the majority of users letting their subscription roll over from month to month. This means they are guaranteed £20 a month from each customer, stabilising their business model and balancing the books. Take full advantage of the free month and get yourself plenty of barista prepared delicious drinks!

What Drinks Are Included?

There are a few exclusions to the list of drinks included but most are on the Pret subscription list. This means you can try things you might not have otherwise wanted to pay for. You might even find a new favourite! It’s also perfect for the autumn months as everyone looks gets a taste for hot chocolate and then wants to warm up in the winter! Drinks on the list include organic coffees, teas, hot chocolates as well as iced drinks including iced coffees, cold brew, frappes and smoothies.

What Are The Rules?

There are many terms and conditions to take a look at before signing up. However, the main rule of the subscription is that drinks have to be at least 30 minutes apart and you can only have a maximum of five a day. This could be ideal for some of us though! Those who walk past a Pret every day. Those who work near one or who already buy a few drinks from there a week! Especially for those self employed among us who love to sit in a coffee shop for the atmosphere, with our laptops and supping just one coffee to keep the price down. If you have two and a half hours in a shop with your laptop and five drinks, that’s a decent saving every month!

How Much Can You Save?

So how much can you save? The first rule here is to remember that you’re not saving money unless you’d have brought it anyway. If you never went to Pret before, this subscription might lure you there, so they have your custom and your money. Takeaway drinks are massively overpriced, especially when you consider that the likes of McDonalds do 99p coffees. Five drinks every day over a 30 day month is 150 drinks. At the average cost we mentioned before that would usually be £375! That’s a lot of cash to spend on coffee! So you could technically save over £350 by taking full advantage of the maximum amount of drinks when purchasing the Pret subscription.

Will you be signing up for the scheme? Maybe you already have? Perhaps it sounds too good to be true and you’re looking for the mistake in the online copy? Let me know your thoughts over on Twitter.
