However, with the announcement of Monday 19th September 2022 being a Bank Holiday for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, there are some people wondering whether the extra Bank Holiday will become an annual event. People are planning their weekends and what they’ll be doing this year and next. But will there be an annual Bank Holiday for the Queen’s funeral? Let’s have a look.
Make The Most Of Your Bank Holidays
If you have any holiday entitlement that you haven’t yet used, why not book Tuesday 20th September – Friday 23rd September off to enjoy nine days off work? Turning four days off into nine days seems pretty good to us! You can do this with many Bank Holidays. Making the absolute most of your holiday entitlement so you can enjoy longer away from the grindstone. Of course, it doesn’t work for everyone as some of us work shifts and others have different entitlement. However, making the most of our time off work is important.
Annual Bank Holiday For The Queen’s Funeral
Whilst many of our Bank Holidays are annual, according to the Government website, in the case of the Queen’s funeral, “there are currently no plans for an annual holiday.”
It is worth noting that back in 1952, there was no Bank Holiday declared for the funeral of King George VI. So this day off to mourn Queen Elizabeth II is a special occasion.
Usually, there are no Bank Holidays between August and December. With the next ones being Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. This extra one in early Autumn seems like it will be a one off.
What About King Charles III’s Coronation?
After the annual Bank Holiday for the Queen’s funeral, all eyes will be turned toward the Coronation of King Charles III. Whilst we don’t yet know when this will be, people are already asking will the Coronation be a Bank Holiday. The Government website states that this will be announced at a later date. However, in short, it will likely be a Bank Holiday as it is a State event.
