I love a good documentary. A couple of the documentaries that stick in my mind from growing up and getting into the world of making films, are Super Size Me and Bowling For Columbine. I loved the tear jerking documentary called Three Identical Strangers which was released in 2018. As a keen wrestling fan I have also watched the Andre The Giant documentary which was equally heartbreaking and eye opening. As you can see, I love a good documentary and that’s why I was thrilled when I saw that there was a new channel coming out, Sky Documentaries.
Sky Documentaries
As I said, Sky Documentaries is a new channel, available for free to Sky channel users and also available on NowTV. It’s possibly the perfect time to tap into an audience which fell in love with Tiger King. Could there be a new documentary which lives up to the same hype as the Netflix hit? There’s plenty of content to choose from, so there could well be!
What Is There To Watch?
One of the highlights that is being pushed out there in the press is Tiger Woods: Back. The documentary shows the golfer’s famous Masters victory in 2019, his ultimate comeback, arguably the greatest in sporting history. It includes never before seen footage and is great for anyone into sport.
One series that I’ve already watched since the channel came out was McMillions. This documentary is all about the McDonalds Monopoly game which, between 1989 and 2001, was rigged. Millions of dollars was stolen and the game was never really able to be won by loyal customers of the golden arches. It’s a great watch, a fantastic story and so well put together.
There is also a new four part series called Hillary. It’s a look at the career and political campaign of Hillary Clinton when she ran for the presidency. This airs on June 5th 2020. Hawking is an original Sky documentary, all about the iconic life of physicist Stephen Hawking. The 90 minute film shows interviews with his family and friends along with clips from his private family achieve. The Robin Williams documentary will also be available, though I’m unsure if I’m ready to watch that. I loved him and he was a real hero of mine growing up. Maybe one day I’ll switch it on.
Other notable documentaries include an eye opening and quite shocking look at the effect of plastic on the River Nile in Egypt. A Sky News investigation into the situation of the Coronavirus outbreak across the globe is also a must watch at this time. Another very relevant documentary to watch is from filmmaker Andrew Rossi, who looks at the impact of fake news in the USA.
