Free Wills Month

Talking about death isn’t seen as a fantastic topic of conversation for many. The reality is though, we’re all going to pop our clogs at some point. Having your affairs in order in life and death is so important. Every March & October is free wills month and you need to act today if you need to get your will written and organised. Let’s have a look at what it’s all about and how you can get involved.

What Is Free Wills Month?

The basic idea behind free wills month is that you can book an appointment with a local solicitor who is part of the scheme and you can get a will drawn up for no payment. London and Scotland aren’t included in the October month so it’s worth, especially if you’re in those areas, trying to get your free will sorted now. By organising your will with free wills month you can get a professional and proper will in place whilst helping great charities along the way.

Nothing Is Free These Days

It’s often said that there is nothing free in with world. Everything costs something. In the case of free wills month you get a will drawn up if you are willing to leave a donation in your will to a charity. The recommended amount is £300 but you can leave as much or as little as you desire. Some solicitors may ask for extra payment to them should the will be complicated and whilst some might store your will free of charge, others may have a set annual price for this. Find out if there are any additional costs involved when you first contact them.

What Are The Charities?

There are many charities behind free wills month, covering a massive range of charitable work. From the RNLI to Mind, the Royal British Legion to the NSPCC, they are all fantastic organisations who depend on legacy donations to continuing doing the amazing work they do. A gift in your will costs you nothing now but can make a huge difference in years to come.

Who Is Eligible?

This free wills scheme is open to anyone aged 55 and over. Many of the solicitors who have signed up will only organise a handful of wills in this manner for the scheme. To ensure you don’t miss out, search online for a local solicitor who is part of free wills month. Give them a call, book an appointment and get started on your will.

Other Ways Of Making A Will

There are plenty of other ways to make a will and get it put into place. There are now even apps you can download to make your will. Organising a will is on our list of things to do. We don’t qualify for these free wills, being well under 55 years of age. I’ll write a post about the avenue we go down to organise our will, when we get around to it.
