How To Have Family Fun This Weekend

It’s important to connect as a family. To have that time, between the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to be together and make memories. These don’t have to be once-a-year holidays or grand gestures that take you to different corners of the world. They don’t have to cost you anything apart from time. Start utilising your spare time and if you lack that free time, carve it out. Let’s have a look at how to have family fun this weekend.

Walk Up A Mountain

There is something fantastic about being outside together. Nature, fresh air, seeing things you don’t usually see. This is why I want to encourage you to walk up a mountain this year. Gather the family together and go for a walk. It doesn’t have to be the highest one in the country. Maybe it’s not even a mountain in your eyes, but for your kids, it’s the highest thing they’ve ever seen. Find a hill or fell and scale it together. There will be times when one or two of you want to give up. There might be complaints and bad weather, so take a decent coat with you. But it’s all part and parcel of the fun. Be safe, know where you are and don’t push yourself beyond your limits. But conquer something together that you can be proud of and that pulls you together.

Get Crafting

Another great idea for family fun this weekend is crafting. When was the last time you, as a grown-up man or woman, sat down and did some crafting? We’re talking colouring in, cutting and sticking, making stuff with paper straws and wooden spoons. Spend a few quid on some bargain craft, or dig out what you have from the back of a cupboard, chuck it in the middle of the table and have fun together. Let everyone have creative freedom to stamp their unique character on things, or you could come up with a theme that everyone needs to make something as part of.

Head To The Coast

Many of us don’t head to the coast unless we go on holiday. But the seaside has so much to offer all year round. Whilst the shops might not all be open and the arcades are likely going to be closed during the off-season, you can always walk along the beach and take a flask of tea with you. Pack a spare pair of clothes and some towels and let the kids go paddling. Bring your body back to life in the cold water by going for a swim yourself. Throw your big jacket on, Fly a kite, kick a ball, building sandcastles and have family fun this weekend.

Stay Local

A lot of us don’t visit the places that are pretty much on our doorstep. We might have a local library, a museum, or an award-winning park. However, we tend to venture further away from home on days out to make it seem more important. Walking from your front door to one of your nearby attractions or locally known gems is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday.

Cuddle Up At Home

Sometimes you just need to stay at home and cuddle up in the living room as a family. Get the blankets out, get the popcorn maker out from the under-sink cupboard and put one of your favourite films on. Who says the curtains can’t be closed at 2pm in the afternoon? Enjoy a movie marathon or play board games with your loved ones. Order a pizza and spend some quality time with your nearest and dearest.

In conclusion, there are so many fantastic ways to enjoy family fun this weekend, these ideas only scratch the surface. Let me know your favourite ways to have fun together as a family.
