I Said No To Some Work

Being self employed, every client is crucial, every project of work is important, every pay cheque keeps things in this uncertain world moving along.

So saying no to a potential new client could be seen as an odd thing to do.

This person who got in touch already had someone in place, who they no longer wanted to work with. They also had a virtual assistant who would organise things with me and as many times as I sent an email saying what I could do and how I would do it, the person kept asking for more information.

Then they asked for references, added extra items on top of the list of work I said I could do (some of which I don’t do), confirmation (again!) of my prices and suggested a trial week which would have been fine. Now, I have no problem letting people see work I’ve done, but I’m not going to hassle clients for references when it’s often hard enough getting them to pay invoices on time.

It was one of those occasions where you think, if this is going to continue like this, it’s probably not going to be worth doing.

Going with your gut is so important in the long run.
