Halloween is on the way and the annual fright night can be fun for a lot of people. However, others don’t want people knocking on their doors and asking the old question of “trick or treat”. There are many reasons why people don’t want to take part in what is becoming a yearly tradition. If you are not wanting people to ring your doorbell on October 31st, download our free no trick or treat sign.
What Is Trick Or Treating?
Trick or treating is a firmly established part of Halloween. People dress up in fancy dress costumes, some cute, some scary, some downright terrifying for All Hallows Eve. Children often go from house to house, knocking on doors and asking “trick or treat” when it is opened. The idea is that the homeowner gives out treats, usually sweets, so they don’t have a trick played on them. Usually, there is no trick if the homeowner has no treats on them, however, the idea is there that treats can be given out and collected in bags or themed buckets.

Why Don’t People Take Part?
There are a number of reasons why people don’t take part in Halloween. It could be that this year they have had a new baby and don’t want it to be woken up by a constant stream of people knocking on the door. Other parents have children with additional needs who don’t like the tradition. Maybe people have other religious beliefs and aren’t interested in celebrating the darkness. It could be that you have people over for dinner or are working late from home. That interruption can be offputting. It’s important to remember that people don’t have the funds to buy sweets to give out to strangers. Especially this year! Some elderly people don’t like it and many others aren’t keen on costumes and clowns. Whatever it is, we have a no Halloween sign that you can use this year.
Our No Trick Or Treat Sign
If you are looking for a no trick or treat sign, ours is perfect for you. It can be printed out in colour or will work just as well in black and white. Find it below, and print off a couple of copies before attaching one to your front door. Halloween is often pretty windy, hence why we suggest having a backup. Use plenty of sticky tape to affix it to your front door and make sure it is well-lit so can be seen. If you have gates or a driveway, you might consider putting one closer to the curbside, so potential trick-or-treaters see it before they even walk up to your door.
If you are out and about for Halloween, please respect the household that has a no trick or treat sign on the front door. There are numerous reasons why people want to be left alone and this should be respected. We’re not saying don’t have fun, but realise that your fun is perhaps different or too much for some people in your neighbourhood.
Whatever you get up to on October 31st, have fun and stay safe. Don’t forget it’s Dinovember tomorrow!
