Keeping the family happy in the car can often be a challenge. Whether it’s the school run, a road trip to see friends or travelling for a holiday, there are plenty of life hacks to make travelling in your vehicle easier, more organised and maybe even quieter too!
Pack Your Own Food & Drink
Kids seem to get hungry at the most inconvenient times. This usually results in tears, tantrums and having to pull over at expensive rest stops. Suddenly you’ve shelled out the best part of £20 for a sandwich. If you’re taking long road trips, pack your own food and drink, so you don’t have to pay for pricey items at the services and you can also eat as you travel. You could even keep a bag in the boot of your car all year round with bottles of drink and snacks in.

Create A Bin
One of the best hacks we did in our vehicle was to use a plastic cereal container as a bin. You know those storage containers that people use to decant their boxes of cereal into, to keep them fresh and easier to pour? We use one of them, bungee corded to the side of the passenger footwell. Simply pop a carrier bag into it and fix the lid into place to ensure smells are kept to a minimum and things don’t fall out. When it’s full, simply change the bag. So much better than picking stuff up from the floor of the car!
Breakdown Gear
There’s nothing worse than having a breakdown or some car trouble. Whilst you might have breakdown cover from a reputable company, you should also know how to do things yourself to your vehicle. Let’s say you have a Land Rover. You should equip yourself knowledge of simply car fixes. This could include a manual of how to change parts yourself or YouTube videos walking you through simple tasks. Nobody wants to be stuck on the side of the road waiting for help for hours upon end, especially with a family. Even less so if it’s the start of your holiday! If you need parts check out Land Rover online here BESTparstore.co.uk.
Wipes At Hand
Keep wet wipes at hand in the glove compartment. There will be many sticky fingers and spills to sort out on car journeys so wet wipes quickly become your ultimate saviour. If your glove box is usually full, you may have seen products which clip to the sun visor and you can keep tissues in them. The perfect storage for your wet wipes!

Simple Storage
Speaking of storage, keep all the kids toys in order by using a shoe organiser on the back of the front seats. This can help house comics, characters, snacks and even bottles of drink the right way up so there are no shouts of “I can’t find my toys”. Everything they need during long car trips can be kept at hand and they can grab items themselves instead of parents in the passenger seat having to hypo-extend their arms to pick things off the floor.
Make life easier for yourself with these car hacks.
