Christmas is almost upon us. There are festive items on sale in the supermarkets, adverts on the TV and songs almost on the radio. I’ve even been watching the dedicated Christmas movie channel! If you have been thinking about what you will budget for the festive season ahead, now is the time to sort out your money pot. As so many of us want to save money on the festivities this year, due to the cost of living being through the roof, let’s run through some top Christmas shopping tips.

Make A List
It is such a common thing to suggest, but making a list makes your shopping trips much more manageable. You know exactly what you are there to buy and don’t get distracted by other items, even if they are on offer and have flashing promo prices blinking at you. You can head to the stores you know you can buy your list of items from, and grab them off the shelves like it’s a mission. Maybe you only need a couple of hours on the car park because you are focussed on getting those things and getting out of there.
Shop Online
Next on our list of Christmas shopping tips is to shop solely online. That way, things can be delivered to you and it is easy to compare prices. This can be done in one evening, and once you have checked out, you know they’ll be delivered and hidden away without anyone knowing. Buy shopping online you are more likely to be able to find discount codes to save extra money. You’ll also be able to click through a cashback site to claw back some of your spends.
Buy At The Best Price Throughout The Year
If you pay into a Christmas sinking fund throughout the year, you’ll have a pot of money there, ready and waiting for the festive season. This is fantastic when you find something on offer at a bargain price that one of your loved ones will be wanting for Christmas. As long as it can be hidden away and stored for a number of months, buy it at the best price and know that one of those gifts is taken care of. You could even shop throughout the year so you don’t have to worry about buying anything during November and December. This will allow you to truly enjoy the Christmas antics and have festive fun, rather than shopping stress.
Give Yourself A Cooling Off Period
One of the best Christmas shopping tips on our list is to give yourself a cooling off period. Maybe you are considering an expensive purchase, or aren’t quite sure if a gift is right for someone. Remove some of the pressure and give yourself time. Walk away and deliberate on that purchase. Rather than spending money and regretting it later, take time over that. This could be 24 hours, 48 hours or maybe even a week. Consider it before you buy. Yes, it could be the perfect gift and you could end up spending the money, but when times are tight, considering each purchase is important.
Experiences Over Things
How much stuff do the people in your life have? So many of us complain about clutter and mess in our homes, but we continue to buy toys and toiletries to open on Christmas Day. How about changing your mindset and looking at buying experiences rather than things? This could be a trip to a theme park, swimming lessons or perhaps a weekend away as a family. We have started to do this with a Legoland trip. These things will give amazing memories that will last a lifetime, without the annoyance of having to find a home for them on Boxing Day.

Cut Back
The last point on our Christmas shopping tips list is cutting back. Really focus on what you want the Christmas season to mean to you and your loved ones. It’s not all about wrapping paper and expensive gifts. It can be about spending time with family, or those you consider to be family. We’re not saying to not have any gifts under the tree come Christmas morning, but a few will thought-about gifts are more meaningful and important than hundreds of bits of what we’d consider to be ‘tat’. You could also consider giving to those less fortunate than yourself. Charity gifts can be fantastic and shows the giving side of Christmas.
Christmas shopping tips can certainly help you, but enjoy the journey to Christmas as well as the day itself. The season can be a wonderful time to enjoy, as well as remember and look back upon. Keep some of that cash in your pocket and find other ways of enjoying the season aside from expense.
