The year is flying by! Many of us are looking beyond this year, into 2022 and the UK Bank Holidays 2022. There are lots of reasons why. Perhaps we’re still unsure about going out because of the pandemic, it could be that we’ve lost loved ones and just want to write off the rest of the year. If you’re looking ahead to 2022, you might be considering booking holidays and looking forward to long weekends off work. With that in mind, what are the UK Bank Holidays 2022? Let’s have a look!

2022 Bank Holidays In The UK

The UK Bank Holidays 2022 list goes like this:

  • New Year’s Day (substitute day) – Monday 3rd January 2022
  • Good Friday – Friday 15th April 2022
  • Easter Monday – Monday 18th April 2022
  • Early May Bank Holiday – Monday 2nd May 2022
  • Spring Bank Holiday – Thursday 2nd June 2022
  • Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday – Friday 3rd June 2022
  • Summer Bank Holiday – Monday 29th August 2022
  • Boxing Day – Monday 26th December 2022
  • Christmas Day (substitute day) – Tuesday 27th December 2022

UPDATE – Monday 19th September 2022 will also be a Bank Holiday for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Substitute Days

You’ll notice that in the list of UK Bank Holidays 2022, the dates for New Year’s Day and Christmas Day Bank Holidays don’t tally up with the proper dates of 1st January and 25th December. This is because the fall on the weekend. Therefore the Bank Holiday moves to a substitute day during the week.

An Extra Day Off

Did you notice the extra day off we’ll be getting as a Bank Holiday in 2022? The Spring Bank Holiday is being moved forward a day to a Thursday, for a celebration of the Platinum Jubilee on Friday 3rd June 2022. We’ll be celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation with a fantastic four day weekend. Streamers at the ready and start planning your street party!

Maximise Your Time Off

When we know the dates of the UK Bank Holidays 2022 we can maximise our holiday days from work. By taking eight days off we can enjoy 16 days off work in April 2022. Just book 11th to 14th and 19th to 22nd April off work and you’ll be able to enjoy 16 days between Saturday 9th to Sunday 24th April.

You can do the same thing with the Platinum Jubilee bonus day. Turn three annual leave days into a nine day break from work. Just book 30th May to 1st June off and you’ll be able to enjoy nine days from Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June.

Book Wednesday 28th December to Friday 30th December 2022 off work and you won’t can have ten full days off work for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Starting your holiday on 24th December 2022 and returning to work on 3rd January 2023! The 2nd is a substitute Bank Holiday because of New Year’s Day falling on the Sunday! Hopefully these top tips help you maximise your time off work.
