Warming Reds For Bonfire Night

This is a paid collaboration.

We love a good Bonfire Night in our house. We don’t always venture out to a public one and this year we’ll probably not be able to. Instead, we light up the fire pit and enjoy some family time before the kids go to bed, then sit out under the stars keeping warm by the flames. Let’s take a look at our perfect Bonfire Night with a couple of glasses of red wine to keep us warm.

Get The Fire Going

One of the first things to do is get the fire going. The stacking of the wood is important, a couple of large pieces with plenty of kindling to get the fire started. We keep our wood under cover so it stays dry and I’m always surprised at just how much wood you need. Even for a fairly small fire pit. We go through a good couple of piles of wood during Bonfire Night evening and the kids enjoy collecting it and helping to keep it going.

Fantastic Food

Next up is enjoying some lovely food whilst the fire continues to burn and get some good heat into it. We usually have some hot dogs, chilli con carne and jacket potatoes. Proper home cooked food, hearty, warming and a little bit spicy. Plenty of bread rolls to hold and crisps to snack on. Enjoying food together is what a lot of family activities are about and we love making those Bonfire Night memories together.

Family Fun

As well as keeping the fire pit stocked with wood, we have plenty of fun as a family before the children head to bed. Star gazing is a great one as it keeps the kids still and stops them running round. They have to sit and see what stars they can see and even constellations they can identify. We also light sparklers and draw our names or make pictures in the air with them. If you do some long exposure photography or put your phone camera into light painting mode you can capture some amazing photos too! Toast and eat some marshmallows too! This is the bit they love the most!

Wine By The Fire

Once the kids have gone to bed, we sit on logs by the fire, with blankets over our knees and put the world to rights with our conversations. Talk about our future, what we want from life, that kind of thing. All of this with a glass of delicious independent wine which is always spot on. If you’re looking for some top quality indie wines from some of the best wineries on the planet, they’re highly recommended.

So, for this Bonfire Night, if you’re staying at home, use some of these awesome ideas. Order some brilliant food, light that fire and enjoy a great bottle of wine or two. Warming red wines by the Bonfire are the perfect way to relax this Autumn. If the weather gets a bit cold as the embers die down, bring the bottle inside and pop the fire on in your living room. Have a great Bonfire Night!
