How ties became part of my love language

We all know how it is to be in love. All the butterflies, the sparks and all the exciting “firsts”. You also probably know about the 5 love languages, and which one works best for you and your partner. But because everyone loves differently, there’s a lot more to these love languages. Adding little insides and little things to your love languages can make your story more special and memorable. So in this article, I’m gonna tell you the story of how something as little as a tie became part of my love language. Read along and think about an add-on you have to love languages.

Start Of The Story

So, just like any other story starts, I was going crazy, trying to find the perfect gift idea for my boyfriend. When I had finally come up with a treasure hunt that would lead him to a surprise birthday party, I just needed some finishing touches. The idea was to add a small gift to each clue, so that at the end, he gets a variety of things he likes. And because he’s always been the kind of guy to dress up smart, one of the presents was a tie. That’s the first tie I got him, in 2017, for his birthday party. He ended up wearing it all the time, so I decided to continue getting him more.

Super Enthusiastic

To go on with the story, you need to know one thing about me, I’m a super enthusiastic thrift shopper. I love just looking around and finding hidden gems. So when I say ties became my love language, I mean ties with detailed designs, weird patterns or just unique symbols on them. So whenever I’d go thrifting, I’d spend a good chunk of time looking at the tie selection. I even have a favorite thrift store for ties, they have the most unique designs and I never leave that one empty handed. This is when I realized that this habit was now part of my love language. It was such a small act, but I would just think which tie works best with his style, which ones he’d like best and at the end of the day, it made both of us happy.

Alternative Flower Bouquet

That’s how my boyfriend got used to getting a tie for every birthday, holiday, or just on a random Tuesday, as an appreciation present. It became my “flower bouquet” for him. As you can imagine, in over 6 years since the first tie, he now has a pretty impressive collection. Some of them are plain and neutral, some have bold colors or patterns, and some of them are just funny ones that we both laugh at. He even has one with tiny skiers on a slope, that’s one of the coolest ones from “the winter section”. The wonderful thing about it is that he still finds ways of wearing them as often as he can. To me, that’s him reciprocating this love language that we picked up, and I love it.
