How To Enjoy Sports On A Budget

Lots of us love sports. We enjoy watching sports, perhaps as much as playing them. If you are in the mood to take up a new sport, or perhaps jump back into an old one, you probably don’t want to spend a small fortune on equipment and gear. This is why we’re going to look at how to enjoy sports on a budget.

Use Your Old Equipment

In the first instance, the best way to enjoy sports on a budget is by using what you already have. Make do and see if getting back into this sport is going to be a long term thing. There is little point in spending money on things if you aren’t going to be using them for very long. That football top you have is fine for training in. The rugby ball is fine for throwing around. The bag of golf clubs from 10 years ago will be good for getting your swing back. Use what you’ve got before you start buying new stuff.

Beg & Borrow

Another way to enjoy sports on a budget is by borrowing from others. If you join a new cricket team, you might be able to borrow the pads and helmet from another player. Ask a friend to borrow their tennis racquet. See if the local courts will lend you some squash gear when you make a booking. This can all help keep costs low whilst you figure things out.

Find Affordable Outlets

Fortunately for those of us wanting to enjoy sports on a budget, there are some amazing companies out there, offering high quality equipment at affordable prices. When I wanted to get back into cricket after almost 20 years off the pitch, I needed some new gear as a lot of what I already owned wasn’t the right size. I also needed a new cricket bat but didn’t want to spend a small fortune on a decent one. However, I wanted more than something you can find in a sports shop, something better quality.

This is when I came across Village Cricket Co, a venture that was set up during the pandemic and is based in the south of England. I love supporting small businesses and the bat I purchased from them is fantastic. If you want to check out what Village Cricket Co have available, use code VCCJOSEPH10 for 10% off.

Shop At Charity Shops

You’d be surprised at how many people take up a sport, buy a lot of equipment and then never really use it. They often find themselves having a clearout and simply send things to the charity shop. Charity shops can be havens for budget sports equipment, as well as clothing. Plus, you are supporting a good cause at the same time! Check out your local charity shops and see what you can find.

Check Out eBay

eBay is a great platform for preloved sports gear. A simple search will bring up a whole host of second-hand sports stuff that is a fraction of the price of buying new. Whether it’s hockey sticks, goalkeeper gloves or rugby boots, you’ll find something to suit. Take a look on Facebook Marketplace too, perfect for items that can be collected! This is also great if you join a local sports team as there might be ex-players who are trying to flog their branded gear.

Playing sports can be a great form of exercise, as well as a way to make new friends and enjoy time with current mates. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to play your favourite game and you can certainly enjoy sports on a budget.
