Who can believe that we are on the verge of yet another football tournament? It doesn’t seem five minutes since the World Cup or the Lionesses‘ victory in Euro 2022. With the football season coming to an end (who will be promoted and relegated this year?) the summer of sport is set to ramp up with the Euro 2024 tournament taking place in Germany. With Gareth Southgate at the helm for one last Euros (will he stick around for the 202 World Cup?), Harry Kane and co are looking for a victory on the European stage. Let’s take a look at when we, as a nation, can get behind the boys and enjoy the Euro 2024 England fixtures.
When & Where Is Euro 2024?
Euro 2024 commences on Friday 14th June 2024 when the hosts Germany takes on Scotland in the opening game. Other teams in the tournament include Hungary, Netherlands, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal and current holders Italy, who you may remember beat England in the final at Wembley. The tournament is set to last a month, concluding on Sunday 14th July 2024.
Who’s In The England Squad?
Manager Gareth Southgate has been able to test out a lot of players ahead of the Euro 2024 England fixtures. Since then UEFA have said teams can have a 26-man squad for Euro 2024. Expect to see the likes of Kane, Bellingham, Foden, Saka and Maguire in the team. There will also be opportunities for the likes of Mainoo, Toney, Dunk, Bowen and Chilwell. Southgate is expected to announce a ‘training squad’ on Tuesday 21st May 2024. Can this team go one step further than four years ago and lift the trophy?
Euro 2024 England Fixtures
Ahead of the group stage, there will be two final friendly matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina (Monday 3rd June 2024 at 19:45) and Iceland (Friday 7th June 2024 19:45)
England have been drawn in Group C and will have the following group games:
- Sunday 16th June 2024 | Serbia vs England | 20:00
- Thursday 20th June 2024 | Denmark vs England | 17:00
- Tuesday 25th June 2024 | England vs Slovenia | 20:00
If the team were to advance from the group stages, the round of 16 games take place on 29th and 30th of June, as well as the 1st and 2nd of July 2024. There will be two games each day, kicking off at 17:00 and 20:00.
The quarter finals are scheduled to take place on 5th & 6th July at 17:00 and 20:00 each day.
The semi finals will happen on 9th & 10th July, kicking off at 20:00.
This is before the final will kick off at 20:00 on Sunday 14th July 2024. Will you be watching?
Final Thoughts
Expect to see plenty of Three Lions flags flying in support of the England football team this summer. Along with fan parks and big screens appearing in local parks. Whether they can go all the way remains to be seen, but there will be plenty of cheering from the fans as we enjoy the Euro 2024 England fixtures.
