ITV Announce New Streaming Service ITVX For 2022 Launch

We all love collapsing on the sofa at the end of a long day and watching the latest and great box set. Whilst we have a whole host of streaming services fighting for our attention, there is going to be a new one coming to the market this year. We’ll soon see ITVX landing on our TVs. Let’s look at what it’s all about.

What Is ITVX?

According to reports, ITVX will be the place to go for the station’s latest and greatest new shows, to view them months before they air on TV. There will also be documentaries, hit series from the United States, fantastic films and and plenty of reality and comedy.

Expect to see lots of homegrown talent like Lenny Henry’s six part drama The Little Birds. A Spy Aong Friends will also premiere on the service, and you will be able to watch Litvinenko which stars David Tennant. You can also catch up with full box sets of Victoria, Love Island and Broadchurch.

ITVX will feature UK premieres of The Sex Lives of College Girls and All American. There will be a chance to relive teen favourites like The OC and One Tree Hill alongside select series of The 100 and Supernatural.

Users will be able to watch BritBox too, which has the biggest streaming collection of UK series from BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

You’ll be able to stream all the ITV channels live, just like you currently can do on the ITV Hub.

What The Executives Say

ITV’s Chief Executive, Carolyn McCall said: “The digital acceleration we are announcing today builds on everything we have achieved in phase one of our More Than TV strategy. ITVX will be a free service supported by adverts, with a compelling subscription proposition.”

ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo, said: “Viewing habits are changing rapidly and ITV has exciting plans which we are announcing today to really scale up our streaming ambitions, offering viewers a service with more fresh, free content dropping every week than anywhere else.”

Prices Are Increasing

We’ve seen the likes of Disney+ announce price hikes, so could ITVX be a new contender to grab your business? Well, we’re not quite sure what the price point of ITVX will be just yet. It will be free to watch with adverts, which feels a bit like 4OD, however for ad free service and extra content, there will be a price to pay. This will be announced before the launch.

If it didn’t offer access to BritBox which is £7.99 a month, I would expect it to be around the same sort of price. However, with this in mind, it will likely be more. They will have to be careful though because I’m not sure many would willing to pay the Netflix and new Disney+ price of £9.99 a month.

ITVX will launch later in 2022. What do you think about the impending launch of a new streaming service?
