30th of April, seems like yesterday. Some of the lyrics to one of my favourite ever songs. I remember seeing that band countless times, in various locations. Who’d have thought that we’d be in a situation where we can’t go and see live music. Yet we are! Here’s some of the best online music gigs going on tonight.
Live-streams From Musicians
So many creative people have lost jobs and finances from the global pandemic. However so many musicians are taking it into their own hands, getting their names out there and continuing to play for their fans online. There are live-streams cropping up all over the place. Instagram. YouTube. Facebook. Even Twitter listening parties. There’s something awesome about listening to your favourite artists, live, being able to interact with them and other fans. These online music gigs are the next best thing to actually being there in person.
Tonight, Tonight
There’s no better time to listen to some live performances from fantastic musicians, albeit online. So let’s have a look at some of the artists who are scheduled to perform tonight. On Instagram you can find Bright Minded w/ Miley Cyrus as well as Charli XCX. Over on Facebook streaming you can see the fabulous Norah Jones. Trivium and Laura Marling are also playing this Thursday night whilst KT Tunstall is tonight’s artist on the Royal Albert Home sessions, straight after the clap for carers. There are so many other online music gigs planned and cropping up all over the place too. Radiohead, Gloria Estefan, This Is The Kit and Tori Amos are all scheduled over the coming few days too.
Support Local Venues
With the lockdown, so many venues are facing financial ruin. I remember when one of my favourite ever venues closed it doors many years ago. It’s just not a building, it’s a set of memories. Think of the history there is behind those closed doors. So many legendary performances. With these venues facing the possibility of closing, many local people who appreciate these places and regularly go there are rallying round to try and support them. I know money is tight at the moment but if you are able to, consider supporting them with a few quid, or simply by sharing their fundraisers online.
Free Music
Whilst a lot of these online music gigs are free to watch on the likes of Instagram, you could support these artists by buying their merchandise. Albums you can play in the car when we eventually are able to drive anywhere for any length of time, t-shirts for the summer months, you know what we’re talking about. You could also take advantage of free trials to music streaming websites and stream their songs too, that way you’ll enjoy their music and they’ll eventually get some royalties.
Lockdown doesn’t have to mean that we sit indoors being down in the dumps all the time. Let’s make the most of it with these amazing online music gigs being put on by some of the world’s top musicians. Even if you have to pop the headphones on and dance around like a slight disco because the kids are in bed!
