If you haven’t heard of Too Good To Go, you’re missing out on getting great food at an affordable price, whilst keeping it out of landfill. Let’s have a look at what the app is all about with my very own Too Good To Go review.
What Is Too Good To Go?
Before my Too Good To Go review, what exactly is the platform? Each yeah 1/3 of food produced in the world goes to waste. Too Good To Go is trying to battle back against that wastage. Since 2016, via the platform over 65 million meals have been saved all over the world. Not only is it saving food from retailers that haven’t sold products during the day, it’s about creating a movement. A movement to stop food waste.
When you join, you download the app and sign in. You can then see what retailers, cafes and fast food places have magic bags available. If there are some available, you can reserve them, pay for them via PayPal and then collect it at the designated time. The food you get is random. It’s a surprise but the mystery is part of the fun.
For a set price of say £3 you could get £10 of food. You could be collecting a bag full of groceries from Spar, some sandwiches pastries and treats from Greggs or a pizza from Papa Johns. Log in today, see what is available in your area and you might be writing your own Too Good To Go review soon!
My Experience
You can find a Too Good To Go review on many websites and blog pages, but this is mine. I’d bee trying to get a magic box from Morrisons for a while but could never get y hands on one. After forgetting about the app for a while I opened it again and realised that a petrol station with attached shops was now part of Too Good To Go.
They have a Spar there as well as a Greggs, both of which offer bags. After a couple of days I figure out what time they tend to hit the app and I opened the app to see 2 bags from Greggs available. I considered getting both but thought I’d just try one to begin with.
After reserving it and paying £2.95 via PayPal, we collected it the next day between 5pm and 5:30pm. The staff were great, they knew exactly what we were on about when we mentioned the bag so it’s obviously a well known part of this business now. The bag was ready and waiting and had been packed in a bag, including a list of what was included and the price it should have been at retail.
The bag was worth just under £9 so paying just under £3, we saved 66%. We got two pasties, a sandwich, a muffin and a doughnut. I think the prices at this Greggs are slightly more expensive than a shop in perhaps a town centre, but I still think we did well. The pasties and sandwich were enjoyed the next lunchtime between my wife & I and the muffin was eaten by our kids. The doughnut was a Dad treat with a cup of tea on the night we got the bag.
Is It Worth It?
As you might imagine from my Too Good To Go review, I think it’s a great idea to keep food out of landfill. I’ve seen plenty of shows and documentaries which show the amount of food wasted. The app is obviously very popular because if you aren’t on it when bags go live, you tend to miss out.
You might not get items you particularly want but it’s a great way to try products you wouldn’t usually eat. I think our particular Greggs bag would be perfect for those workers who usually buy their lunch at work. You might spend £5 or more on a meal deal. So if you could get a sandwich, pasty and sweet treat for under £3, with some extra, it’s ideal.
