Orange Fizz
This is a particularly simple experiment and one which children love to participate in. You will need just two things – an orange and some baking soda.
Dip the sliced orange into the baking soda and encourage your child to take a bite. The orange will fizz and bubble in their mouth creating a strange sensation.
The science behind the idea
When acids are mixed with bases, there are certain reactions. Oranges are filled with citric acid and baking soda is a base. When the two meet, millions of carbon dioxide bubbles are created.
