If you don’t know what an air fryer is, let’s break it down for you. It’s a counter top machine, varying in size, some the size of a coffee machine, others the size of a microwave. You can cook almost anything in an air fryer and the is basically simulates deep frying without the oil. Instead, a fan circulates hot air at high speed. You can get them from as little as £30, up to £100+, depending on the brand and where you purchase from. It is healthier than traditional frying, cutting calories by as much as 80%. The Price & The Energy
The amount of energy used by an air fryer varies by numerous factors. The make and model for a start, but also the settings you are using. For example, our air fryer has a reheating setting which only heats the compartment up to 160 degrees. Whereas it also heats at up to 240 degrees which would require more energy. On average you are looking at around 1.4kwh and 1.7kwh per hour of use to power your air fryer.
The new price cap is 28.34p per kWh for electricity, so you are looking at 39.67p to 48.17p for those averages. Remember, that is for an hour. Compare the price and length of time it takes to cook food in an air fryer, with using your oven. Gas ovens take longer to warm up and cook your food too.
